Internal Hemorrhoid Treatment

Author: Rebecca Roland

Hemorrhoids pertain to the swelling and inflammation of the veins in the rectum and anus. There are two types of hemorrhoids; internal and external. Internal hemorrhoids are the ones that affect the rectum.

Internal hemorrhoids are not painful. This is because rectum has low pain receptors. However, bleeding may happen if hemorrhoids are agitated.

There are two possible severe situations that may arise in the rectum if hemorrhoid treatment is not performed; the prolapsed hemorrhoids and strangulated hemorrhoids. Prolapsed hemorrhoids happen when the internal hemorrhoids are pushed out of the anus. Strangulated hemorrhoids happen when the prolapsed hemorrhoid is trapped outside the anus and may cut off its blood supply.

Internal hemorrhoids fall under different categories. Grade I hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids that are not yet prolapsed. Grade II hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids that have prolapsed during a bowel movement but has impulsively reduced. Grade III are internal hemorrhoids that prolapsed during a bowel movement and may need manual procedures to reduce it. And Grade IV hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids that prolapsed and cannot be reduced manually.

Hemorrhoids are not curable as of this time but may be treated. A number of hemorrhoids home treatment solutions may help in managing and reducing the symptoms brought about by this condition. Internal hemorrhoid treatment may help in preventing worsening of the hemorrhoids and help in its natural healing. If the hemorrhoid is already in its advanced or severe case, treatment may need to have invasive procedures.

The natural method in internal hemorrhoid treatment consists of supplement intake which may help in regulating bowel movements, proper blood flow, and providing more strength to the vein walls. Regular and easy bowel movement may help in avoiding agitation of the hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoid is caused by the increase of strain happening during bowel movements.

If the stools are softer, then bowel movements will be easier. This may be done by taking in lots of high fiber foods and drinking enough water. Chamomile tea may also help in passing stools regularly. It also helps strengthen vein walls to resist strain during bowel movements. And lastly, chamomile tea helps in reducing swelling and inflammation.

Chronic hemorrhoids and severe cases may need surgical and non-medicinal internal hemorrhoid treatment. Here are some of the possible treatments used:

Hemorrhoid Treatments

  • Rubber Band Ligation - this is when an elastic band will be used to cut off the blood flow in the affected area. It will then be shed off during bowel movement.
  • Galvanic Electrotherapy - this makes of electric current to dry up the hemorrhoid.
Sclerotherapy - the hemorrhoid is injected with a hardening tool to make the vein walls collapse and have the hemorrhoids shrink in size.
  • Infrared or BICAP coagulation - the hemorrhoid is cauterized with the use of infrared beam or electricity.
  • Hemorrhoidectomy - this makes use of surgical procedures to remove the hemorrhoid. This is often used only for Grade IV hemorrhoids because of the side effects it may give later in life.
  • Enema - this cleans the rectum by injecting water into it and flushing it out.

All procedures still need consultation from a health professional. These should be done by experts or specialists to avoid complications. Getting enough information about hemorrhoids can help in preventing it. Ways of prevention must also be practiced.
